Interoperation of Controlled-Load Service and Guaranteed Service with ATM
نویسندگان
چکیده
This document provides guidelines for mapping service classes, and traffic management features and parameters between Internet and ATM technologies. The service mappings are useful for providing effective interoperation and end-to-end Quality of Service for IP Integrated Services networks containing ATM subnetworks. The discussion and specifications given here support the IP integrated services protocols for Guaranteed Service (GS), Controlled-Load Service (CLS) and the ATM Forum UNI specification, versions 3.0, 3.1 and 4.0. Some discussion of IP best effort service over ATM is also included. The key words "MUST", "MUST NOT", "REQUIRED", "SHALL", "SHALL NOT", "SHOULD", "SHOULD NOT", "RECOMMENDED", "MAY", and "OPTIONAL" in this document are to be interpreted as described in RFC 2119 [1]. (Note, in many cases the use of "MUST" or "REQUIRED" reflects our interpretation of the requirements of a related standard, e.g., ATM Forum UNI 4.0, rsvp, etc.) Garrett & Borden Standards Track [Page 1] RFC 2381 Interoperation of CLS and GS with ATM August 1998

INTERNET - DRAFT Marty Borden , Bay Networks ,
Service mappings are an important aspect of effective interoperation between Internet Integrated Services and ATM networks. Both Internet and ATM technologies have well-defined service architectures. In each, a small number of services are identified, with behavioral descriptions and related parameters to quantify network traffic and Quality of Service (QoS). This draft provides mappings betwee...
متن کاملM1, M2, ..., Mk/G1, G2,..., Gk/l/N Queue with Buffer Division and Push-Out Schemes for ATM Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)
In this paper, loss probabilities and steady state probabilities of data packets for an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network are investigated under the buffer division and push-out schemes. Data packets are classified in classes k which arrive in Poisson fashion to the service facility and are served with general service rate under buffer division scheme, finite buffer space N is divided in...
متن کاملThe Feasibility of Introducing ATM SVCs
This paper presents the results of a case study performed for SURFnet bv. to determine if the time is ripe to introduce ATM SVCs into the Dutch ATM research network. The current state of the art in ATM SVCs is that vendors have been shipping SVC capable equipment for some time now. SVCs seem attractive, in the sense that they can be created on demand and instantaneously by the user, and that th...
متن کاملUsing Mobile Code for Semantic Interoperability in Distributed Agent Systems
This paper presents a framework based on mobile code for ensuring a semantically correct interoperation among loosely coupled agent systems in wide-area networks. Dynamic service lookup is supported by a distributed service registration and publication infrastructure, which offers a differentiation between service types and service providers, as well as between compatible and incompatible versi...
متن کاملGuaranteed Quality-of-Service Wireless Access to ATM Networks
In this paper, we study the problem of wireless access to ATM. We consider three classes of ATM sources: constant bit rate (CBR), variable bit rate (VBR) and available bit rate (ABR). We propose a polling scheme with nonpreemptive priority. Under such a scheme, we derive suucient conditions such that all the CBR sources satisfy their jitter constraints and all the VBR sources satisfy their dela...
